Easter eggs...why all the useless packaging?

me and my bf just bought all the kids in the family a easter egg for easte yest and once again im completly dumbfounded as to why they use so much useless packaging. first the big plastic thing the egg sits in ans then the box...easter eggs are at their cheapest this year..most places sellng them for a quid each so i hate to think just how little the packaging must cost yet how effective it is to damaging the enviroment. whats your thoughts?
